Sis. Fay Barhorst

July 11, 1939 - April 1, 2012
Funeral services for Fayetta Hunt-Barhorst, age 72 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Thursday at 2:30 pm at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Black officiating. Burial will follow in Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Barhorst passed away Sunday at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.
As a popular girl scout leader, she still holds the record for the most girls in a troop at 42. Fay had a heart for children and served as a Foster Mother to several children. She was a substitute teacher and nursing assistant at Chapman Middle School in Huntsville, AL. She retired as a Special Agent from the U. S. Army Military Intelligence, Fort Meade, MD in 2002 and moved to Fayetteville. She authored a cookbook entitled Granny Fay’s Healthy Cooking for Congestive Heart Patients and Diabetics. She was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ and loved working with the youth group and cooking for the church.
Survivors include her husband Ray S. Barhorst, son Brian Hunt of New Oxford, PA, daughter Jill Davis of Auburn, AL, five living grandchildren Brad Davis, Austin Davis Daniel Davis, Kayla Hunt, Lucy Hunt and Raymond Hunt, three living stepchildren, Fred Barhorst of Albertville, AL, Vicki Kranz, Barbara Barhorst both of Huntsville, AL, six step-grandchildren Christina Brown, Jennifer Kranz, Amber Barhorst, Joshuah Barhorst, Donnie Anderson, Chelsea Anderson and one step great grandchildn Emily Brown. She was preceded in death by her grandson Christopher Davis and her step-daughter Rebecca Anderson.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening 5-8 PM at Higgins Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Give Kids the World, 210 South Bass Road, Kissimmee, Fla. 34746.
