news from Ricky

Just heard some news from Sara Jo on Ricky Pierce that I was excited to share!  His surgery is over and he is in recovery.  The surgery went well and the doctors were very encouraging about what they found.  I’m sure they’ll know more a bit later, but for now it looks like a very good report and Ricky will be well on his way to recovery.

Just thought you’d want to know.  Say a little prayer of thanks!

Service Opportunity

Church,

We have become aware of a potential need among some families that we have the opportunity to serve in our community and church.  The burden of purchasing school supplies is often a large one, especially for families with many children.  We have recognized a need and so I’d like to ask if anyone is out purchasing supplies this weekend, pick up some extra.  We would like to put together some packets of supplies (using the supply lists from the City & County schools provided at Wal-Mart) for some students who could use them.

Take advantage of the tax holiday this weekend and help us serve these families.  You can bring the supplies to the office or to church on Sunday.  I’ll also mention it from the pulpit Sunday to remind you.  Thank you so much for meeting this need!

Have a blessed weekend!

Final update from Honduras

Wednesday started off with a trip to the school for the blind to hold a clinic andpass out toys. We had a great time there and served about 40 students and 30 staffmembers. That brought our totals for the week to 798 patients and 2104prescriptions. Part of the group left the school to go and pass out food bags in adestitute part of town and they were well received by the inhabitants of the area.Tonight we are going up to the Hotel Maya for a surprise birthday party for Joel andan surprise "atta girl" party for Susan Osteen to congratulate her on passing herPraxis exam! After that it will be off to an indoor futbol stadium for friendly gamewith our Honduran brothers and sisters. Tomorrow morning we leace a little part ofus here and head back to the Estados Unitidos. Please pray for our safe travel.
-Stacy

The group is due to arrive at the Nashville airport at 11:00pm Thursday evening. The flight is always late.

Honduras Update- Tuesday

Well Tuesday is in the books and we were once again richly blessed in more ways than we can count. The construction group has completed the second house and all is well with the new occupants. The medical brigade went to a beautiful place on the mountain called Escuela de Liquidon for our clinic today. We saw 95 patients and dispensed 282 prescriptions. Our totals thus far are just over 700 patients and almost 1900 prescriptions filled. We have one more clinic tomorrow at the school for the blind, we are all going to go and we can not wait. Tonight we went to the Hospital Escuela and sang, prayed, and held a short devo with the family members of the patients in the pediatric waiting room. We also passed out 225 meals, baby clothes, and soaps & perfumes. The Gallatin church has an annual tradition of sending cots down for us to pass out to the family members in the waiting room to sleep on for the night. It was a very touching moment to see the people react to the things that God blessed them with tonight. Your prayers are apreciated, we miss you.

Monday Update from Honduras

Today was probably the longest day I have ever had in Honduras. We started off early this morning with an approximate 90 minute van ride to a place affectionately called by the locals ¨ Q-Tip Mountain" due to the fact that the place we were was actually in the clouds and from the valley the mountain top looked like a Q Tip. Oh yeah the trip started with getting to see a wrecked bus with the entire cab torn off of it, and for any of you that have ever been here you fully understand how that happened!! Before we ever arrived, the rain started to pour and continued to do so most of the day. We were able to get most of the way in the vans, but finally had to stop and get in 4WD trucks to finish the trip. We worked at a school and were able to serve 139 patients and dispense over 400 prescriptions. This does not count the dentists seeing roughly 100 patients. Did I mention that it had already started to rain, well when we finished up we found out that there had been a mudslide and that we were stuck until they could clear the md and tree that had slid into the road. Our trip out started on foot with us carrying all the meds and supplies that were not dispensed for aproximately 20 yards to the 4WD trucks, which then took us up the mountain in the pouring rain with 5 of us in the back seat of a little Toyota truck. When we made it back to the vans the truck went back to get the rest of the team and we finally all re-grouped and headed back in to Tegucigalpa! It was great day and we all were left with memories that will not be soon forgotten. The construction group almost finished the second house and plan on finishing it up tomorrow! Can not wait to see what tomorrow brings. Hope all is well!

Vaya con Dios,
Stacy

Honduras Update- Sunday #2

Today was quite a blessing getting to worship with the brothers and sisters atIglesia de Cristo in the Valle de Angeles. We sang to them and they in turn sang tous and occasionally we sang together. Michael Johnson spoke to the church in Spanishthis morning and is going to deliver the same tonight in our devotional for those ofus who may have missed a point or two during the Spanish this morning. We were thentreated to a great lunch prepared for us by the hermanas of the church. After churchservices, many of the group went for their retail therapy while some of us stayed atthe church building and had a clinic for the members. As of Sunday we have seenroughly 680 patients and handed out 1200 prescriptions. The second house starts inthe morning and we are doing a clinic on the street outside the Honduran soccerstadium for the homeless kids in the area. Please continue to lift us up in prayerand pass the word along to the church that their brothers and sisters at theInglesia de Cristo send them their greetings and many thanks for all that has beendone for them.
Vaya con Dios,Stacy

Honduras Update- Sunday

We have had a very busy but blessed few days here in Honduras. The construction
group has already completed the first house! The VBS folks have been busy at the
construction sites, medical clinics, and the boys home spreading the Good News and
passing out the baby clothes. The medical brigade has seen close to 400 patients and
dispensed nearly 1000 prescriptions. We are off to the valley of the Angels for
church this morning and then the medical brigade will do a clinic for the folks at
the church and also spend some time in retail therapy! Please continue to lift us up
in prayer.

Red Cross Blood Drive... June 23rd

An Important Encouragement…
Wouldn’t it be great if we knew when an emergency would happen? That way we could have plenty of time to get ready, call our family, and friends and wait for things to return to normal. Unfortunately, emergencies just don’t happen like that.
Like most days, I left home at 5:30 am on Tuesday, November 3, to go to work. That day I never made it to work. I spent the next 21 days on the trauma floor at Vanderbilt Hospital where they use a lot of blood. If people had not donated blood, my life could have been at risk.
With the healing hand of God, my family and friends, many prayers and the American Red Cross, I am alive today!
I’m asking each of you to please consider donating blood when the American Red Cross comes to Washington Street. One simple act can make a huge difference and save a life.
Thank you,
Eric Yatsko

Congrats!

Congrats to Adam & Terri Smith on the birth of Ephraim Adin Smith yesterday! Born yesterday afternoon, March 24, Ephraim weighed 7 lbs 14 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long! They are all doing great. Congrats, too, to proud Grandparents, Wayne & Jennifer Smith and to big brother, Abram, who is insisting on calling his new baby brother, “Jones”. I don’t know why.

Have a great day!

This week's bulletin

This week’s bulletin is online now at… http://www.washingtonstreetchurch.org/Bulletins/Feb18.pdf

We’re a day behind this week due to President’s Day & some inclement weather on Monday… but you’re still ahead of the folks who receive the bulletin thru the postal service!!

Let me encourage you to go online this week and listen to last Sunday’s message if you were not able to be here.  There were a lot of folks out of pocket due to the weather, but I felt like it was an important message we all needed to hear.  Go to the website http://www.washingtonstreetchurch.org/PulpitLibrary.htm and click on this week’s message, “Encourage Each Other” .  You can listen online or you can download it and listen to it later.  Thank you.

Have a great week & God bless!

Jim
